These Indian Punjabis, many of whom are Sikhs, have actively contributed to the cultural and social landscape of Los Angeles, bringing with them a rich heritage and strong ties to their roots in Punjab, India. Sikh community gathered at the Civic Center Plaza in Downtown Los Angeles for a non-binding Khalistan Referendum. Organized by Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), the event provided a platform for more than 35,000 Sikhs to cast their votes in support of establishing an independent Khalistan—a separate homeland for Sikhs. The referendum is part of a larger global campaign calling for self-determination among Sikhs, particularly in the context of increasing tensions with India following incidents such as the high-profile assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
